Why We Don't Wear Makeup Everyday (And Why You Shouldn't Either)

If you happen to know us personally, you may notice that my sister and I do not wear makeup on a daily basis. If we do, it is very minimal and mostly used when needed or as a little pick-me-up. Why do we do this when loads of other girls our age are just piling on the foundation? Here are a few reasons:

1. It's not healthy for your skin or face - Think about the many girls applying layer after layer of heavy foundation and powder that will only clog their pores and cause severe breakouts. Do you really want your skin to become damaged? Cosmetics contain a lot of harmful chemicals and when you apply that to your face, it will penetrate into your skin. This can cause allergic reactions, premature aging, and a number of other issues. Also, all the heavy black kohl liner used to line the waterline of eyes can cause a variety of eye infections, especially if one wears contacts. Mascara contains bacteria that may lead to blindness, so you might want to think twice before adding a third coat of that volumizing mascara.

2. People start relying on makeup - As people start wearing a full face of makeup everyday, they start to not like their face without makeup on. I recall when I was in middle school and starting putting on some concealer to hide some redness. It soon turned into a habit of me putting on concealer even though I didn't need to. I just did it so I could be like everyone else, but the truth is, it made my skin more oily and acne prone. The main problem of doing this is that girls start feeling more and more self-conscious and less confident about their appearance. I am not saying that you can't wear a bit of lip color to help you emphasize those perfect-pouts, but remember the keyword for cosmetics is moderation. Caking on a suffocating amount of powder will not help you look better, nor will it make others like you more. Let your inner beauty shine!! Others may not even know how beautiful you really are if you hide yourself in a mask of makeup.

3. So much money and time is invested - If you just held back from buying the newest eyeshadow palette from Sephora (I know it's hard but trust me, it's worth it) just think of how much money you have to spend on other things. You can go buy some new clothes or go to the latest movie with your friends. If you slimmed down your morning makeup routine to just a couple dabs of concealer, a bit of mascara, and lip gloss, now you have more time to focus on a put-together outfit. You may even have time to eat a healthy breakfast before school!

In conclusion, everyone should start spending more time with skincare and less time with makeup. My sister and I focus a lot more on skincare. It gives a more healthy and natural glow to skin. You won't have to use loads of makeup once a working skin routine is set. Additionally, you will probably get more compliments with natural skin versus a full-face of makeup. You will be more confident in how you look. Just as an extra, the bare faced look was seen all over the Spring 2015 runways. Nevertheless, the natural look will always be in style.

Do keep in mind that I am not trying to ban girls from wearing makeup. I still like to doll myself up too, but just once in awhile for special occasions and such. You may do whatever you please, but we thought that this important topic should come to everyone's attention. Also, I am not a doctor, so the information of the harmful effects of cosmetics may be different for individuals.
